How sad to see the “can do” attitude of Cllr Jarvis and our Council’s Administration so quickly turn into can’t, or won’t, do!
The “can do” motion was passed at the Council Meeting on Friday 18th November. The next motion, on bringing forward the Council’s own plans on sustainable transport in Hereford city (that’s walking, cycling, buses, rail, road safety, and appropriate car use and parking) as laid out in the Place-Shaping paper (January 2010) was crushed by 35 votes.
I, for one, will continue to “walk the talk” – walking or cycling to every event I attend on Council business. As I breathe in the noxious exhaust fumes, and risk accident from motorists often stuck in traffic congestion, yet seemingly unable or unwilling to take the modest needs of pedestrians or cyclists into account, I will remember that Cllr Jarvis believes “actions speak louder than words”.
