Cllr Julie Woodward was the best type of Councillor. Rooted in her local community, Julie spent her life serving the people that surrounded her. She was the driving force behind the creation of the St Nicholas Community Association, a registered charity raising funds for good causes in her ward. She helped with the over 60's club, ran monthly bingo sessions and organised trips to Weston Super Mare for local residents. If you were in need, Julie was your friend. She was an active Governor of Lord Scudamore School and Whitecross School and headed up the local credit union, Moneybox.
In the last year of her life, Julie had the great privilege to represent the home town she loved as the Mayor of Hereford. During her mayoral year she attended a staggering 504 official engagements - an incredible achievement for anyone, but for someone who was already suffering from the advanced stages of cancer, without knowing it, Julie's performance was nothing more than miraculous. She was driven by her passion for her city and she was not going to let the city down. For this we salute her - she was an amazing woman.
Julie was a founding member of It's Our County, she believed, as we do, that things could be done so much better than they are being done. Our best tribute to her is to carry this work on, even though we are going to sorely miss her presence.
We have set this site up to remember Julie and give people the opportunity to donate in her memory to the charities she did so much for in her year as Mayor and to give people the opportunity to share some of their thoughts in remembering her.
We shall miss you Julie.
During her Mayoral year, Julie raised money for the Macmillan Renton Unit and Help For Heroes. Please consider donating to these charities in her memory by clicking the link below.
