Alex Hempton-Smith

Learning, working and growing up in Tupsley has been a great start in life. Whilst at college, Alex became a member of the It’s Our City campaign, generating a petition of 13,000 signatures, fighting desperately for investment in our dying City Centre. It was an opportunity to learn about the inadequacies of our Council, and the public’s frustration.

Alex left the Sixth Form last summer with acceptance letters for two Universities; and he’s looking forward to training as a teacher and experiencing life outside of the County. However, he’s also looking forward to moving back to Herefordshire and bringing up children in the community he’s grown up in and enjoyed so much.

For now, University can wait; he feels Hereford is on the cusp of huge and devastating change and somebody needs to step up to the plate to help save and preserve it for future generations. He believes Herefordshire should offer the best launchpad for any young person; that desire for a better Herefordshire which young people can enjoy now, or return to in the future, has inspired him to stand in the elections for the Tupsley Ward; to bring honesty, transparency, and a youthful energy to the council – a real breath of fresh air to clean out the cobwebs.

Alex works part time for a charity in Hereford, and as a bartender at the Rose & Crown. His father owns and runs Hopscotch, a local business in Tupsley, and his mother is Qualifications Manager for the Herefordshire Primary Care Trust.
